Some four years ago I was approached by Mary McCormick on behalf of others for permission to put together a history of the parish.
A previous undertaking was done by Fr Michael Endicott and his history covered 1878 to 1930.
The parish was to celebrate 140 years in 2018 so they were wishing to have this book ready for the anniversary. So by shear persistence and determination this band of dedicated people brought it to fruition.
This took place recently on the weekend of 12 and 13th May. It commenced with the tolling of the church bell for the Angelus for the coming together for prayer.
Then a coach tour, down memory lane, of all the places in the parish, a fun filled excursion I hear.
I attended the dinner that evening with the guest speaker and fittingly this was Mary McCormick.
Next day the Bishop said the 10 am Mass followed by the book launch.
I arrived just in time for this. Fr Dave Austin did the launch on behalf of the Augustinians.
The writing team were blessed by the Bishop and they in turn presented certain people with a copy of the book.
It is a beautifully presented book on gloss paper. The 350 pages indicates the amount of research and work they put into this wonderful book.
It is called Kyabram Catholic Heritage – Ever Ancient, Ever New 1878 – 2018.
We thank them for their effort but as well saying thank you so will history . . . and this is never forgotten because it goes on.
Fr Michael
