Last week we celebrated the feast of the Sacred Heart, the name given to our parish.
There are many parishes under the patronage of the Sacred Heart in our diocese.
The symbol of the heart as the symbol of love is appropriate to the heart of Jesus.
When I speak to the children, they can very quickly pick up and identify with love and the heart and this is what Jesus is for us – the Father’s love for us.
We had our school Mass to celebrate this great feast which we proudly posted on Facebook.
The children were amazing, they made it a celebration by their responses and the enthusiastic way of singing the songs.
I thought the Lord Jesus would be so moved and happy at the response of the children on such a wonderful feast day.
During the homily I used examples to explain to everyone that the heart of Jesus is full of love.
My examples were a biro and a book. They both need something inside – the biro needs ink, the book needs words otherwise they can look like it but nothing inside.
Our heart, to be like Jesus, needs to be full of love so we can be what we are supposed to be.
