End of an Era

When we hear of something coming to an end, one of the first to come to mind is probably our own life. Things less dramatic than this could be a business house, newspapers, the local corner store, sporting organisation, and we have churches of all religions closing down and being sold due to decreasing congregations and availability of clergy.

We in our parish have not been spared this sad reality of where we are in todays society. This week we had the final gathering of the Catholic Women’s League CWL. We celebrated with Mass and then the Annual Meeting and the General Meeting. They then enjoyed afternoon tea with many photos taken for the photo album and posterity.

The number of ladies who attended was indicative of why they were folding up, these were only elven in attendance.

I said a Mass of Thanksgiving so we could reflect very positively on the wonderful 84 years of the league in Tatura.

It would be difficult to even comprehend the amount of good achieved by these women over these years. SO much of what we enjoy today in some way in the parish was due to the foundational work of these dedicated parishioners. They were the face and true witness of not only our parish but the Catholic Church to all people.

It was a sad time but they can by proud of their own contribution and the wonderful legacy of 84 years of dedicated service to the parish. Stand tall and praise God.
