This week we, the priests of the diocese, had our annual retreat at the Seminary in Carlton. I, like many, left on Thursday to be home in our parishes for the Feast of the Sacred Heart.
It is important for us to celebrate as we are under the patronage of the Sacred Heart.
Our gospel at Mass was one I was looking forward to sharing with the children.
If was Matthew 11:25-30 which talks about the burdens we are under and so often we place on each other.
Jesus uses the example of the ‘yoke’, which I had fun with in asking the children – ‘what is a yoke?’
There was the obvious answer. Matthew Cameron had kindly put on the slide showing two oxen with the yoke and pulling a cart (the burden).
I enjoyed explaining to the children, Jesus’ comment – “Shoulder my yoke and learn from me”.
It is a good reminder to all of us that Jesus is always there with his yoke to share our burden.
